Oops, I did it again
No beating around the bush this time — I’m gonna tell it to you straight. I BQ’d at Royal Victoria with a time of 4:00:26 (33 seconds to spare — HUZZAH!) I believe I ran the perfect race, although that’s not to say it was easy. It truly tested my marathon mettle. Everything they say about the marathon — that the race doesn’t start until Mile 20 (or that the halfway mark is REALLY at Mile 20), that it becomes a mental game at the end — was true for me. There was no surging across the finish line yelling “I’m going to Boston!” like there was at the Tunnel Marathon. It was more of a lurch with a look that said “Please someone grab me before I pass out.” Hubby, alas, didn’t BQ, but we didn’t think he would given the horrible chest cold he’s been battling.
Anyhoo, I’ll be posting a full race report soon. (I would have posted earlier but WordPress wouldn’t accept my password on my iPhone).
Cheers!

You’re on fire! I’d just keep running these things if I were you. You’ll break 3:30 by New Year’s.

There is no stopping you now! WTG!

Thanks guys! And no, there WON’T be any other BQs in my immediate future. I do plan on running a few more marathons in the next few months, but they’ll be slow and steady.

Damn, you are on a roll! Congratulations. that measn you can run Boston twice right? Circle back around to Hopkinton and have a go a second time?

Damn, Betsy! You are getting so fast! You are amazing.

You BQ’ed again? Congratulations Betsy! I can’t wait to read the details.

Oh no you di-unt! Way to GO! Are BQ’s transferable? If so, then your husband could run Boston, too, right? Probably not, but just trying to help here.

Congratulations! Looks like becoming a Maniac has improved your prowess 😉

Fantastic! Can you count that for 2010?

That’s so strange. When I looked up your time (yes, I was stalking you), I saw a 4:15 finish and thought “wow, she’s still smoking these races”. Maybe that was your total time, not the net?? You’re smoking them even more than I thought. 😉

Wow. That’s amazing! Congrats. Do you have to run twice as fast at Boston now that you’ve qualified twice? 🙂
BTW, what kind of kayak did your husband build? I’ve built a dkin on frame baidarka myself…

(Written after a panicked double check of the results):
Angie — my gun time was 4:01:52, so perhaps you read that as 4:15. Then again, my bib number was 1415, so maybe that’s what you misread! Anyhoo, indeed my final time was 4:00:26.
Meg — YES! That’s the main reason I decided to go for another BQ. We’ll see if finances allow for another trip in 2010, but it’s nice to know I have that option.

Aaron — Thank you! He’s built a couple of kayaks — one was a cedar strip, the others were stitch-and-glue (he used a plan from Chesapeake Light Craft for his first one; the rest were his own design).

D’oh! I just knew I saw 4:15 when I looked up your time… except it was your time from North Olympic, not Royal Victoria. Not the brightest bulb in the pack, am I?!

Too funny — that too occurred to me after I had posted my previous reply!
