I’ll never make it to Boston with this attitude
So I was THIS CLOSE to heading out for a 12-mile run today. My iPod was loaded, I had scraped the muck off my shoes from a previous run, two Clif Shots were in my pockets and my bag was packed with a change of clothes for our lunch. My darling’s big toe was bothering him, and when he put on his running shoes the pain worsened. He tried a quick jog up and down our street, but it was obvious he wouldn’t be able to make it one mile, let alone 12. Looked like I’d be doing a solo run.
While it had been drizzling for at least an hour, at that moment the torrential downpour began. So, not only would I be going at it alone, I’d be soaked to the bone in the end. NOT my idea of a good time.
I know if I’m to make it to Boston I can’t let circumstances like this keep me from running. But considering I also had to make a bunch of turkey to take up to Whistler for Thanksgiving, I figured I could put the run off until tomorrow (Wunderground predicts the weather will be better) and focus my attention on brining the turkey and making stock for the gravy. So, rather than post about a cold, wet and utterly sh!++y training run, I’m going to fulfill my obligation for being tagged by Warriorwoman.
The rules:
- link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog
- share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird
- tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs
- let them know they are TAGGED by leaving a comment on their blog.
Now for some totally random things about me:
- In the 7th grade, my English teacher held a contest among six classes to see who could best sing all the prepositions to the tune of Jingle Bells. My homeroom won.
- The year was 1975. I can still sing it today.
- We used to have a pet alligator. It was found in one of the toilets at my dad’s school (he was the principal).
- I got caught skipping in 11th grade, but since the principal of my school knew my dad, he merely put his arm around me and admonished, “You’re one of my good ones. Don’t mess up.”
- I have one tattoo and five piercings.
Tag, you’re it:

(gasps) You had a pet alligator?! The anxiety in my stomach is rising to my ears as I consider this. Did you feed it stray kittens?
Wow, you have a tattoo? Are three or four of the piercings in your ears? You sound like such a bad ass, Betsy! And here I thought you were a tall, running Betty Crocker. But now you’re a tall, running bad ass Betty Crocker.
Cool!

Living in Belgium, I can relate to the rain problem! I think our climates are similar. Definitely not fun to run and be immediately soaked! By the way, I enjoyed your singing!

4 of the 5 are in my ears. The location of the other piercing (and the tattoo) shall remain a mystery 🙂
(But if you were to actually find out where they are, it’s doubtful you’d still label me a bad ass!!)
As for the alligator, I think we only kept it for a day or so, but considering I was only 5 at the time, I thought it was SOOOO cool to have it!

P.S. Amy — I’m glad my singing didn’t burn your eardrums!!! (I wasn’t sure how obvious it was to click on that. I didn’t know how to make the link a different color to make it more obvious, so I just made it bold).

Good for you for getting out there and running and…thanks for the tag. I don’t think my 5 things are quite as interesting…but I will noodle on it.
PS…way off the topic….hate to mix work with running…but do you have a good recipe for a creamy new potato & spinach soup. I had some and loved it and can’t find a recipe.

Too bad you slept in. We had a good run. It would been fun to have you join us!

Well, you basically tagged everyone whose blog I read so it tells me two things:
A) I need to branch out and seek more running blogs
B) I should surrender in the game of blogtag.
Being the competitive little rascal that I am, I refuse to admit defeat. Maybe some of the dudes I read haven’t been tagged? Hmmm…..

The first time i read this, I thought you said “skipping IN 11th grade” not actually skipping school. I thought, “wow, you can get in trouble for skipping?” ha ha
I’m it? Ok, let’s see if I can think of anything semi-interesting….hmmmm

My first half-marathon was in Vancouver, BC. The weather was perfect until the last 5 miles when it poured down rain. Sometimes running in the rain is awesome but sometimes I just want to curl up in bed and drink hot tea.
Enjoying your blog – found it through running blogs.

Thank you for stopping by Anna!

Hey Betsy, it is tough to get motivated at this time of year, isn’t it? I bought my treadmill 2 years ago in November, because I knew I wouldn’t make myself go out. I’m not sure why I’ve been feeling the urge to run outside this year, but only late in the day. If I had to do it before noon, it would never happen! Oh, and the post run celebration has been sugar-free hot cocoa loaded up with Irish Cream. You will going get to Boston before I get to my weight goal!

PS: I’m so jealous you are going to Whistler. It’s so amazing there. I lvoe it. You will totally burn extra calories walking around in the cold, crisp, clean air. Whistler Village is so fun! And skiing burns like a million calories! Have fun!
