{"id":104,"date":"2008-03-07T20:25:12","date_gmt":"2008-03-08T03:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/?p=104"},"modified":"2008-03-07T20:25:12","modified_gmt":"2008-03-08T03:25:12","slug":"duvet-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/?p=104","title":{"rendered":"Duvet Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A friend of mine used to work for a public relations firm that gave its employees a couple of &#8220;duvet days&#8221; per year.\u00a0 Those were the days where you woke up and decided you just wanted to stay in bed all day with the duvet over your head.\u00a0 They weren&#8217;t sick days, more like &#8220;mental health&#8221; days.\u00a0 Well, today was my version of a &#8220;duvet day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since I&#8217;m self-employed I don&#8217;t get the luxury of paid days off, so I couldn&#8217;t ditch my client.\u00a0 But fortunately my cook day was a speedy one.\u00a0 And I actually was able to drag my butt out of bed for my morning arm weight routine, but it was a half-hearted effort.\u00a0 Normally I put in at least an hour to an hour and a half; today I called it quits after 45 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>My workday was done by 1:30 p.m., and after taking my darling to lunch I plopped myself on the couch with a bowl of truffle popcorn.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t moved for the past four hours.<\/p>\n<p>Why such slothfulness?\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been anxious about this weekend&#8217;s half marathon since it will be the first time I&#8217;m truly racing.\u00a0 Sure, I try to run my best at every race, but it&#8217;s not a priority.\u00a0 With this race, I not only hope to PR (and ideally break the 2-hour mark), I&#8217;m also using it as a gauge for my marathon training.\u00a0 Based on my finish time I will readjust my training paces accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Mercer Island is known for its hills; while there aren&#8217;t any steep grades (other than one small downhill), the race comprises rolling hills throughout.\u00a0 This year&#8217;s course has been changed to include two particularly long, albeit gradual, hills within the last 2-3 miles.\u00a0 Therefore, I&#8217;ve been incorporating several hills into my workouts.\u00a0 Thing is, given how I feel, I&#8217;m wondering if I&#8217;ve done TOO much.\u00a0 (Hence the duvet day).<\/p>\n<p>I must remind myself that my training is for the marathon in June; not Sunday&#8217;s race.\u00a0 If I were just training for that, I would have tapered longer and eased up on this week&#8217;s runs.\u00a0 I did bag on a 5-miler this week, but my taper is only a couple of days long.\u00a0 However, it&#8217;s sorely (pun intended) needed!\u00a0 If I&#8217;m up for it, I may hit the pool tomorrow morning before heading to the expo.\u00a0 But if my body begs me for another day of rest, so be it!<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for the race report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A friend of mine used to work for a public relations firm that gave its employees a couple of &#8220;duvet days&#8221; per year.\u00a0 Those were the days where you woke up and decided you just wanted to stay in bed all day with the duvet over your head.\u00a0 They weren&#8217;t sick days, more like &#8220;mental [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-104","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-fitness-musings","category-training"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/104","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=104"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/104\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=104"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=104"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=104"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
