{"id":161,"date":"2008-09-27T15:27:44","date_gmt":"2008-09-27T22:27:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/?p=161"},"modified":"2008-09-27T15:27:44","modified_gmt":"2008-09-27T22:27:44","slug":"look-ma-no-tears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/?p=161","title":{"rendered":"Look Ma, no tears!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am happy to report I&#8217;ve run 23 tearless miles since my last post (although I may have muttered a few &#8220;damn&#8221;s,&#8221; &#8220;ouch&#8221;es and &#8220;how many more f&#8217;ing miles do I have to run?&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>I was determined to get in a redemption run on Monday, and when I saw the skies clear from grey to blue I knew there was no excuse for backing out.\u00a0 I decided to run a portion of the course I skipped the day before; although it was longer than I wanted to go (about 10 miles), I gave myself the option to walk should things get tough.\u00a0 I averaged a 9:20 pace for the first five miles heading down around Lake Union, then slowed to a 9:50 pace as I ran back up.\u00a0 I experienced the typical aches and pains, but nothing too drastic.\u00a0 As I neared the 8-mile mark I decided I&#8217;d be ready to walk after 9 miles.<\/p>\n<p>I hit that mark just as I reached Greenlake.\u00a0 Normally that would spur me on to finish strong (I was about a mile and a half from home), but I welcomed a leisurely stroll.\u00a0 I figured if I happened to see anyone I knew and they asked why I wasn&#8217;t running, I&#8217;d point to my Garmin to show them I really was a studette and had just run 9 miles.\u00a0 I&#8217;d also tell them I had just run a marathon, let&#8217;s see &#8212; how long ago?\u00a0 HOLY CRAP!\u00a0 It had been only two weeks since I had run a freakin&#8217; marathon!\u00a0 No WONDER I was sore.\u00a0 Sheesh!<\/p>\n<p>I started adding up the miles since Skagit Flats and was shocked to realize I&#8217;d run almost 50 (it would have been closer to 60 had I finished Sunday&#8217;s run as intended).\u00a0 Some recovery!\u00a0 Upon returning home I consulted my &#8220;Advanced Marathoning&#8221; book to see what it recommended as a plan for marathons five weeks apart.\u00a0 Sure enough &#8212; I was overly ambitious.\u00a0 While I had scheduled two rather long runs &#8212; Sunday&#8217;s 20-miler and an 18-miler for tomorrow &#8212; the longest run Pfitz calls for is 15 miles, and that&#8217;s not until late next week.\u00a0 He may be hardcore, but he obviously emphasizes recovery.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve since retooled my plan and will only be running 12-13 miles tomorrow.\u00a0 I even bagged today&#8217;s 5-mile recovery run since I walked to my running store on the other side of the lake (about 3 miles).\u00a0 I&#8217;m no longer aiming to BQ at Royal Victoria either (although I may try to beat my North Olympic time).<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps all I needed was a good cry to knock some sense into me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am happy to report I&#8217;ve run 23 tearless miles since my last post (although I may have muttered a few &#8220;damn&#8221;s,&#8221; &#8220;ouch&#8221;es and &#8220;how many more f&#8217;ing miles do I have to run?&#8221;) I was determined to get in a redemption run on Monday, and when I saw the skies clear from grey to [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[43,42],"class_list":["post-161","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-fitness-musings","tag-marathon-training","tag-tears"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/161","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=161"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/161\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=161"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=161"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eatdrinkrunwoman.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=161"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
