Better than a gold star!
Can you guess what I just did? Can ya? Can ya? Give up?
I JUST RAN!
Okay, so it was just for 15 minutes (running 2 minutes, walking 1 minute), but it felt SOOOO good to do so. Assuming I feel okay on Thursday I can up my running portion to 3 minutes, then 4 minutes, then 5. Once I can run for 15 minutes straight without injury I can then increase the total running by 5 minutes. I have to take a day off in between, but I should be in rather good shape within three weeks or so. I still have to do my exercises and stretches, which is fine since they’re obviously working.
Now if I can just lose 10 pounds I’m sure my hip and knee issues will completely disappear 🙂

Congrats on getting run!! I have been reading your blog for a few weeks and I am really enjoying it. I am a beginner runner, and I have cut back on my miles because of hip and knee pain. I am training for my 1st half marathon in March and I think I tried to do to much too soon. I also share your desire to lose another 8-10, I think my joints would appreciate it as well.

Thank you Christie! When I started to run I found I had to try out a few different pairs of shoes to see what worked best for me. I now buy them from a running store where they can watch me run to determine what I need. I tend to over-pronate, so they recommend stability shoes. And of course strengthening all the surrounding muscles certainly help as well!
Good luck with your half marathon!

Betsy, I’m so excited that you were able to run yesterday, and that you have been given the go ahead to start a slow, but steady comeback. If you stay within the limits and don’t sneak in extra miles or days (not that any of us would ever do anything like that) I am sure you will be back to normal in just a few weeks. And what a spectacular day for a comeback!

Yep — DEFINITELY going to ease back in. It’s just no fun been sidelined!

YEah… I’m so glad you joined the challenge. Your goal is very do-able. I am also excited to see if I am faster once I drop these darn last 10 lbs.
Good luck!!!
