My apologies to Angie
My blogger friend Angie expressed her excitement on May 16 about the delivery she’d be getting in a couple of days from Mr. UPS: her new Asics Gel Foundation VIIs. They’re terrific shoes for those of us who suffer from IT band issues (I think it’s a tall girl thing) as they provide a lot of stability and motion control. I’ve been wearing them for the past three months (although mine are the men’s version since my shoe store didn’t have the women’s at the time). Unfortunately Angie’s excitement was short-lived, as her shoes not only didn’t arrive as planned, her package mysteriously went missing. So now she must reorder her shoes and wait some more (I’m assuming that since she lives in a small, rural town she must have to do a lot of online shopping). It’s been almost three weeks, and I don’t think she’s sporting her new shoes yet.
Me? Since my store is just on the other side of Greenlake, I decided to take a recovery walk (I ran a half yesterday; stay tuned for the race report) and pick up some. I ambled along the trail, waltzed into the store, tried on a couple of sizes (they had the women’s shoes this time!) and within minutes I was sauntering back along the trail swinging my shopping bag.
Living in a large city does have its perks sometimes!

I love Super Jock N Jill! I buy most of my shoes there, even though it is a 25 mile trip. I really appreciate the effort they put into making sure I leave with the right pair of shoes. I also appreciate their liberal return policy for the times when the shoes don’t quite work out. I like to “break in” my new shoes with a lap around Green Lake.
I confess that I have also done a small amount of shopping at Road Runner Sports, but only for things that I couldn’t find at Super Jock N Jill. It is also a very nice store, with a helpful staff.

We’ve been buying our shoes there for a couple years now. I too love their customer service and how they’ll watch your gait and offer suggestions. They even gave us a 10% discount last time since my husband and I were both buying shoes!
I actually just bought some workout wear at Road Runner the other day. And I’m signed up for a heart rate monitor clinic there on Thursday (it’s through the Seattle Triathlon Club).

Sigh. Those sure are purdy shoes (she says as her eyes cast upward in dreamy thought.)
I’m certainly envious, but fear not: the end of my shoe drought is in sight! I received e-mail confirmation just today that my new pair were shipped and will arrive just in time for my marathon relay on Saturday. Happy days are here again! I won’t have much time to “break them in”, but eight miles shouldn’t be too much wear and tear on my feet.
I don’t think I realized you were wearing the same shoe. Are they all I am hoping them to be??

Oh happy day!
I really do like them. Since the ones I’ve been wearing are the men’s size, I’ve had to tie them a bit differently since there was a bit of slippage in the heel. At first I thought I might have to take them back because of it, but it hasn’t been a problem (I’ve put on close to 200 miles in them). The women’s ones feel even better, although I’ve yet to actually run in them (other than the quick jog up and down the hill next to the store).
I also have not been experiencing the knee pain I had earlier in the year (although I’m sure the PT had a lot to do with it as well). Hope they treat you well!

As a particularly short laydee, I need to question the assumption of ITB issues being a tall girl thing. They do look like comfy shoes though.

I stand corrected! 🙂
