This skirt ROCKS!

June 26th, 2007 in Gear | 10 Comments »

Zebra skirtI absolutely love the idea of running skorts. I figure if you’re going to be all hot and sweaty, you may as well look cute. Problem is, the two skorts I have — Champion and Adidas — are only good for shorter runs as the shorts creep up (chafing becomes an issue for runs of 8 miles or longer).

I checked out Running Skirts, and while I love the variety of colors, the really cool ones only come with running briefs. The company does offer some with compression shorts, but they only come in three colors: black, navy and pink. Wah!

A couple of weeks ago, while at a heart rate monitor seminar, I saw a couple of women wearing TRiKS skorts (a site I had stumbled upon while doing my research). They both raved about the shorts, saying they truly stayed in place. So I decided to give them a try. Although the MarathonGirl style has briefs, the GymGirl has longer compression shorts. Because I’m also looking for ideas for my Marathon du Medoc costume, I thought it would be fun to order the limited addition zebra design.

I tested the skirt out during our recent 17-mile run, and was absolutely thrilled. Not only did the shorts NOT ride up, they wicked away sweat beautifully. They also include two small pockets for gels, keys, iPod, etc. The skirt fabric is very light and swishy; I felt so girly! It took a while to get used to having the skirt ride so low on my hips, but once I was assured it wasn’t going to slide off, I was fine. Now I just need to find other zebra accouterments to complete my outfit!

(P.S. Leave it to my darling to make me look like Chesty LaRue).

I just discovered running skirts, too. So cute and comfortable! I am going to have to gradually phase out all of my shorts, I think.

Girl, you’re lookin’ goooood! I get so many compliments on my running skirts (their being cute and all), but truthfully the reason I like wearing them is because they’re so darn comfortable. I do want to check into the website you mentioned, though. My skirts both have compression shorts that tend to ride up and chafing on the inner thighs is anything but comfortable. Good luck completeing the ensemble! A tiger print jogging bra, perhaps? 😉

I totally scored yesterday. I found a zebra print camisole at TJ MAXX for just $8. I then have a pink cami jog bra that I’ll wear under it (it matches the trim in my skirt). I’ve found a couple of other accouterments but will save my finds for a post just before I leave (I’ll probably end up making some of the costume).

That skirt is just too cute! I hopped over to skirtsports.com, and totally fell for that pink camo number. They have a lot of cute things, including the running dress. My running wardrobe is kind of shabby for a diva. I think I need some cute running skirts, and maybe even that cute little dress. My husband would probably be thrilled to see me in anything but running shorts, since I practically live in them!

Will there be a photo of the complete outfit, or do we have to wait until after Medoc?

There will most definitely be a post & photo BEFORE Medoc (I’m thinking the costume will be looking rather shabby at the end!). I have a pretty good idea of what I’m going to do, but I’m going to keep looking for ideas. The Halloween costume stores are just starting to get in more inventory, so I’ll keep visiting them for ideas.

love it! i just ordered a skirt from runningskirts.com … it arrived yesterday & i love it – will test it on a run tomorrow. i’ve been wary of the skirt thing, but you & angie look so damn cute in them & i just keep reading such fun reviews about them i had to try it out.

i cannot wait to see the photo of you in your final marathon outfit!!

more importantly – do these skirts make you run faster?!!

Since I’ve only tested it out on a long, slow run I can’t say for sure they make your run faster, but the swish-swish-swish of the skirt certainly makes it SEEM like you are!

I just received another item for my zebra wardrobe in the mail. It’s awesome!

Yes! Very cute! I love the new skirt craze. They are both cute and oh so comfortable! Has anyone tried this one??? I really like their compression shorts – they really seem to stay in place on my long runs. http://www.SkirtGoddess.com

There was a discussion of those at the Complete Running Forum (the writer loved them). I was concerned about the shorts though since I’m tall (and actually one of the owners of the company wrote a comment expressing the same thing).
